Manner of changing XXVIII. ' And whereas fome Doubts have arifen, whether commanding Officers of any Regi- Mcn and Hoi lis. <■ ment, Troop, or Company, may exchange any Men or Horfes quartered in any Town or Place, ' with another Man or Horfe quartered in the lame Place, for the Benefit of the Service ;' Be it declared and enacted by the Authority aforefaid,That fuch Exchange as above-mentioned maybe made by fuch commanding Officers refpectively ; provided the Number of Men, or Horfes, do not exceed the Number at that Time billeted on fuchHoufcor Houfes; and theConftables, Tythingmen, Head- boroughs, and other chief Officers, and Magiftrates of the Cities, Towns, and Villages, or other Places where any Regiment, Troop, or Company fhall be quartered, are hereby required to billet fuch Men and Horfes fo exchanged accordingly. And be it further enacted by the Authority aforefaid, That it fhall and may be lawful for dier s Settlement for Ins an y tw0 or more Juftices of the Peace for the County, Town, or Place, where any Non-commiffion, Officer or Soldier fhall be quartered, in cafe fuch Non-commiffion Officer or private Soldier have either Wife, or Child, or Children, tocaufe fuch Non-con - miffion Officer or Soldier to be fummoned be- fore them, in the Town or Place where fuch Non-commiffion Officer or Soldier fhall be quartered, in order to make Oath of the Place of their laft legal Settlement ; (which Oath the faid Juftices are hereby impowered to adminifter) and fuch Non-commiffion Officers and private Soldiers as aforefaid, are hereby directed to obey fuch Summons, and to make Oath accordingly; and fuch Juftices are hereby required to give anattcfted Copy of fuch Affidavit fo made before them, to the Perfon ma- king the fame, to be by him delivered to his commanding Officer, in order to be produced when re- quired ; which attefted Copy fhall be atanyTime admitted in Evidence, as to fuch laft legal Settlement, before any of his Majefty's Juftices of the Peace, or at any General or Quarter Seffion of the Peace: Provided always, That in cafe any Non-commiffion Officer or private Soldier fhall be again fum- moned to make Oath as aforefaid, then on fuch attefted Copy of the Oath by him formerly taken, being produced by him, or by any other Perfon on his Behalf, fuch Non-commiffion Officer or Soldier fhall not be obliged to take any other or further Oath, with regard to his legal Settle- .ment, but fhall leave a Copy of fuch attefted Copy of Examination, if required. Officers &c. to bequar- XXX. And be it further enacted by the Authority aforefaid, That from and after the twenty- make Deductions out of fourth Day of March one thoufand fevert hundred and fixty-four, no Paymafcer General, or Pay- Officcrs or private Mens niafter of the Army, Paymafter of the Marines, Secretary at War, Commiflary, or Mufter-mafter, ^jf- or any other Officer whatfoever, or their under Officers, (hall receive any Fees, or make any De- ductions whatfoever, out of the Pay of any Officer or Soldier in his Majefty's Army, or from their Agents, which fhall grow due from and after the faid twenty-fourth Day of March one thoufand feven E . hundred and fixty-four, other than the ufual Deductions for Clothing; and twelve Pence in the Pound to be difpofed of as his Majefty fhall think fit ; and the one Day's Pay in the Year for the Ufe of the royal Hofpital at Chclfea ; and fuch other necefiary Deductions as fhall, from time to time, be ■directed by his Majefty under his Royal Sign manual. Tresfury tile Money i ing, every i the Clothing of the feveral Regiments, Troops, and Companies, notwithstanding the Mufter-rolls Pavmaiters to dedufl the have not been duly returned : And the refpective Paymafters are hereby directed to make Deductiona Off-reckonings, of all Off-reckonings, and to pay the fame to fuch Perfon or Perfons only as have a regular Affign- ment for Clothes by him or them delivered to the faid Regiment, Troop, or Company ; and the Re- ceipt of fuch Perfon or Perfons having or being lawfully intitled to fuch Affignment, to be from Time to Time taken for the fame; and when no fuch Affignment appears, the Off-reckonings to re- main in the Hands of the faid Paymafter refpectively, for the Ule of the Regiment, Troop or Com- pany, until a new Contract for Clothing and Affignment is made. Officers to give Notice to XXXIII. And that the Quarters both of Officers and Soldiers m Great Britain, and in "Jerfty, innteeeps of Subfiftence- Guernfey, Alderney, and Sark, and the Iflands thereto belonging, may hereafter be duly paid and fa- awney in their Hands, tisfied, and his Majefty's 'Duties of Excife better anfwered, Be it it enacted by the Authority afore- faid, That from and after the faid twenty-fourth Day of March one thoufand feven hundred and fixty-four, every Officer to whom it belongs to receive, or that does actually receive, the Pay or Subfiftence-money, either for a whole Regiment, or particular Troops and Companies, or otherwife, fhall immediately, upon each Receipt of every particular Sum which fhall, from Time to Time, be paid, returned, or come to his or their Hands, on account of Pay or Subfiftence, give pub'.ick Notice thereof to all Perfons keeping Inns, or other Places where Officers or Soldiers are quartered by virtue of this Act ; and fhall alfo appoint the faid Innkeepers, and others, to repair to their Quarters at fuch Times as theyfnall appoint for the Diftribution and Payment of the faid Pay or Subhiter.ce-money to the Officers or Soldiers, which fhall be within four Days at the fartheft after the Receipt of the fame as aforefaid ; and the faid Innkeepers, and others, fhall then and there ac- quaint
