In the Thirteenth Year of the Reign of our late Sovereign Lord King William the Third ; And from thence Continued to the Eighth Day of March, jn the Firft Year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lady Anne, by the Grace of God, of England, Scotland, Prance and Ireland, Queen, Defender of the Faith, &c. CAP. XIV. An Aft for Enabling Her Majefty to Appoint Commiffioners to Treat for an Union be- tween the Kingdoms of England' and Scotland. WHEREAS the Parliament of Scotland did in the Reign of their late Majefties King Wil- liam and Queen Mary, fhew Their Defire of an Union between the Kingdoms of England and Scotland, and in Order thereunto did Pafs an Act, Nominating Commiffioners to Treat concerning the Union of the Two Kingdoms. And whereas the Queens moft Excellent Majefty, out of her Princely Zeal and Care for the Welfare and Happinefs of her Subjects, is defirous of a nearer and more Compleat Union between Her Two Kingdoms of England and Scotland, and hath Recommended to Her Parliament of England, from the Throne^ to Confider of Proper Methods for Obtaining the fame : To the end therefore- that Her Majefties Royal and Gracious Purpofes maybe Accomplifhed, and fuch a farther Union may be Treated and Agreed upon, as may Compleat and Confirm for ever a Conftant Mutual Love and Friendlhip between the Subjects of both Realms ; Be it Enacted by the Queens moft Excellent Majefty, by and with the Advice and Confent of the Lords Spiritual and Tem- poral, and of the Commons in this prefent Parliament Affembled, and by the Authority of the fame, That fuch Perfons as lhall be Nominated by Her Majefty, under Her Great Seal of England, or fuch and fo many of them, as lhall in that behalf be Appointed, by Her Majefty to be of the Quorum, lhall, by Force of this Act, have full Power, Commiffion' and Authority, at fuch time and times, and in fuch Place or Places, as Her Majefty fhall Pleafe to Appoint, to Afiemble and Meet, and thereupon to Treat and Confult, according to the Tenor or Purport of their Authority or Commiflion in that behalf, with certain Commiffioners as fhall be Authorized by Authority of the Parliament of Scotland, of and concerning fuch an Union of the faid Realms of England and Scotland, and of and concerning fuch other Matters, Claufes and Things whatfoever, as upon Mature Deliberation and Confideration ot the greateft part of the faid Commiffioners Affembled, as aforefaid, and the Commiffioners to be Authorized by the Parliament of Scotland, according to the Tenour or Purport of their Commiffion in that behalf, fhall in their Wifdoms think Convenient and- Neceflary^ for the Honour of Her Majefty, and the Weal and Common Good of both the faid Kingdoms for ever ; Which Commiffioners of both the faid King- doms fhall, according to the Tenour or Purport of their faid Authorities or Commiffions in that behalf, reduce their Doings and Proceedings therein into Writings or Inftruments ^uadrupartite, every part to be Subfcribed and Sealed by them : To the end that one part thereof may, in all Humblenefs, be pre- fented to the Queens moft Excellent Majefty, Two other Parts thereof to be Offered to the Confidera- tion of the Parliament for the Realm of England, and another part to be Offered to the Confideration of the Parliament for the Realm of Scotland; at their next Seffions, which fhall be held in each King- dom refpeitively, after fuch Writings or Inftruments fhall be Subfcribed and Sealed by the faid Com- miffioners : That thereupon fuch further Proceedings may be had, as by Pier Majefty and both the faid Parliaments fhall be thought fit and neceffary, for the Weal and Common Good of both the faid Kingdoms ; to whom the entire Confideration of the whole, and the Allowing or Difallowing the whole, or any part thereof, as they fhall think fit, is wholly referved. II. Provided alfo, and be it Enadted and Declared, That no Matter or Thing to be Treated of, Agreed or Propofed by the faid Commiffioners, by Virtue of this Act, fhall have any Force or Effect to be put in Execution, until it be Confirmed and Eftablifhed by Act of Parliament of England. 231 Anna
