He saw in coming days, and not on any far horizon, well-educated African women bringing into their national heritage the best treasures of the West, partners in thought as in work with their husbands, good wives, good mothers, good thinkers, with a thread of beauty woven by them into daily life.

More than most Africans, Dr. Aggrey knew white women who counted him as a friend. He honored them with frank and simple courtesy. But in the women of his own race he saw qualities which equally held his respect and reverence; it was the marriage of African with African, and the upbringing of African children in African homes, which inspired him with hope for the partnership of his people in the affairs of men.
