Enlisted men receive slight increase of salary for continued service, and in addition to their cash pay are furnished with rations, clothing, medical attendance, and medicines and shelter, light, and fuel ; after thirty years of service they may retire on three-fourths pay and allowances, which for a private soldier amounts to about $ 25 per month.
