I. x^A C T for Settling the Militia. Edinburgh, the x^. oijune, 16 jz. t , H E Kings Majefty confidering , that the Honour and Security of this His Ancient Kingdom are much concerned in the right ordering and fettle- ing of the Militia within the fame : Which being a Service and Imploy- ment of fo great Truft , t- "is Majefty Refolves to take fpecial notice thereof ; and as He will give all due encouragements to thofe who mall be imployed therein , fo He will expect , and require from them an exact performance of the duties and fervices incumbent to them in their feveral ftations. And therefore His Majefty , with advice and confent of His Eftates of Parliament , Doth hereby Declare , Statute and Enact , That all fbch perfons who lhall be enrolled and admitted in this truft of the Militia , fhall be entirely referved lor that imployment ; and during their fervice in it, lhall be freed and exeem'd from all other Levies whatfoever. And rhat the perfons imployed may be fuitable to , and qualified for fueh a truft , It is alfo hereby Statute and Or- dained , That all the Officers in the Militia, be perfons well affected to the Religion and Government of the Church, as it is now eftabliihed by the Laws of ti»is Kingdom : And that all the Officers and jSouldiers, to Horfe or Foot , lhall, at the firlt Rendevous of each Regiment or Troup, where they fhall 'be prefent, Take the Oath of Allegiance , which is hereby Ordained to be adminiftred unto them, by the chief Officer commanding upon the place. And if it lhall happen any of them to refuie the fame, S 3 That
