The Ghospel at the first Masse upon Christmas day.AND it came to passe, in those dayes there came forth an edict from Cæsar Augustus, that the whole world should be enroled. 2This first enroling was made by the President of Syria Cyrinus. 3And al went to be enroled, every one into his owne citie.In the yeare, from the creation of the world 5199. from Noes flud, 2957. from the Nativitie of Abraham, 2015 from Moyses & the comming forth of the People of Israel out of Ægypt, 1510. from David anointed king, 1032. from the first Olympias, 800. from the building of Rome, 752. hebdomada 63 according to the prophecie of Daniel (c. 9) that is, in the yeare 440. or there about: in the sixt Age of the world, when there was universal peace in al the world: the Eternal God the Sonne of the Eternal Father, meaning to consecrate & sanctifie the world with his most blessed comming, being conceaved of the Holy Ghost nine moneths after his conception, JESUS CHRIST the sonne of God is borne in Bethlehem of Juda, in the yeare of Cesar Augustus 42. Usuard. in martyrol. Decēb. 25. according to the common ancient supputation. 4And Joseph also went up from Galilee out of the citie of Nazareth into Jewrie, to the citie of David that is called Beth-lehem: for because he was of the house and familie of David, 5to be enroled with Marie his despoused wife that was with child. 6And it came to passe, when they were there, her dayes were fully come that she should be delivered. 7And she brought forth her first begotten Sonne, and swadled him in clothes, and laid him downe in a manger; because there was not place for them in the inne.
8And there were in the same countrie shepheards watching, and keeping the night watches over their flock. 9And behold, an Angel of our Lord stood beside them, and the brightnes of God did shine round about them, and they feared with a great feare. 10And the Angel said to them: Feare not, for behold I evangelize to you great joy, that shal be to al the People: 11because this day is borne to you a Saviour which is Christ our Lord, in the citie of David. 12And this shal be a signe to you; You shal find the infant swadled in clothes, and laid in a manger. 13And sodenly there was with the Angel a multitude of the heavenly armie, praising God, and saying, Gloria in excelsis at Masse.14Glorie in the highest to God: and in earth peace to ″ men of good wil.✠ 15 b The Ghospel at the second masse upon Christmas day. And for a Votive of our Lady from Christmas to Candlemas.b And it came to passe, after the Angels departed from them into Heaven, the shepheards spake one to an other: Let us goe over to Bethlehem, and let us see this Word that is done, which our Lord hath shewed to us. 16And they came with speed; and they found Marie and Joseph, and the infant laid in the manger. 17And seeing it, they understood of the Word that had been spoken to them concerning this child. 18And al that heard, did marvel; and concerning those things that were reported to them by the shepheards. 19But Marie ″ kept al these words, conferring them in her hart. 20And the shepheards returned, glorifying and praysing God in al things that they had heard, and seen, as it was said to them.✠
21 cc The Ghospel upon the Circumcision of our Lord Jan. 1. And Gen. 17, 12.* after eight dayes were expired, that the child should be circumcised; his name was called Jesus, which was Luc. 1, 31.* called by the Angel, before that he was conceaved in the womb.✠
