The Ghospel

22Then Luc. 11, 14.
Mar. 3, 22.
* was offered to him one possessed with a Divel, blind and dumme: and he cured him, so that he spake and saw. 23And al the multitudes were amased, and said: Whether this be the Sonne of David? 24But the Pharisees hearing it, sayd: This fellow casteth not out Divels but ″ in Beelzebub the Prince of the Divels. 25And Jesus knowing their cogitations, said to them:

Every Kingdom [1] devided against itself shal be made desolate: and every citie or house devided against itself, shal not stand. 26And if Satan cast out Satan, he is devided against himself: how then shal his Kingdom stand? 27And if I in Beelzebub cast out Divels, your children in whom do they cast out? Therfore they shal be your judges. 28But if I in the Spirit of God do cast out Divels, then is the Kingdom of God come upon you. 29Or how can a man enter into the house of the strong, and rifle his vessel, unles he first binde the strong? and then he wil rifle his house. 30He that is ″ not with me, is against me: and he that ″ gathereth not with me, scattereth. 31Therfore I say to you: Every sinne and blasphemie shal be forgiven men, but ″ the blasphemie of the Spirit shal not be forgiven. 32And whosoever shal speake a word agaynst the ″ Sonne of man, it shal be forgiven him: but he that shal speake against the Holie-Ghost, it shal not be forgiven him neither in this world, nor ″ in the world to come. 33Either [2] make the tree good, and his fruit good: or make the tree evil, and his fruit evil. For of the fruit the tree is knowen. 34You vipers broods, how can you speake good things, whereas you are evil? for of the aboundance of the hart the mouth speaketh. 35A good man out of a good treasure bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of an evil treasure bringeth forth evil things. 36But I say unto you, that every ″ idle word that men shal speake, they shal render an account for it in the day of judgement. 37For of thy wordes thou shalt be justified, and of thy wordes thou shalt be condemned.

The Ghospel upon Imber wenesday, the first weeke of Lent.38Then answered him certaine of the Scribes and Pharisees, saying, Maister, we would see a signe from thee. 39Who answered, and said to them:

The wicked and advouterous Generation seeketh a signe: and a signe shal not be given it, but the signe of Ionas the Prophet. 40For as Jon. 2, 2.* Jonas was in the whales belly three dayes and three nightes: so shal the Sonne of man be in the hart of the earth three dayes and three nightes. 41The men of Ninivee shal rise in the judgement with this generation, and shal condemne it: because Jon. 3, 5.* they did pennance at the preaching of Jonas. And behold more then Jonas here. 42The 3. Reg. 10, 1.* Queen of the South shal rise in the judgement with this Generation, and shal condemne it: because she came from the endes of the earth to heare the wisedom of Salomon, and behold more then Salomon here. 43And * when an uncleane spirit shal goe out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth not. 44Then he saith: I wil returne into my house whence I came out. And coming he findeth it vacant, swept with besoms, and trimmed. 45Then goeth he, and taketh with him seaven other Spirits more wicked then himself, and they
