The Ghospel

therfore being gathered togeather, Pilate said: whom wil you that I release to you, Barabbas, or Jesus that is called Christ? 18For he knew that for envie they had delivered him. 19And as he was sitting in place of judgement, his wife sent unto him, saying: Have thou nothing to doe with that just man. For I have suffred many things this day in my sleep for him. 20But the cheefe Priests and Ancients persuaded the People, that they should aske Barabbas, and make Jesus away. 21And the President answering, said to them: Whether wil you of the two to be released unto you? But they said, Barabbas. 22Pilat saith to them, What shal I doe then with Jesus that is called Christ? They say al: Let him be crucified. 23The President said to them: why what evil hath he done? But they cried the more, saying: Let him be crucified. 24And Pilat seeing that he nothing prevailed, but rather tumult was toward; taking water he washed his hands before the People, saying: I am ″ innocent of the bloud of this just man: looke you to it. 25And the whole People answering, said: His bloud be upon us, and upon our children. 26Then he released to them Barabbas, and having scourged Jesus, delivered him unto them for to be crucified.

27Then the Presidents souldiars taking Jesus into the Palace, gathered togeather unto him the whole band: 28 Jo. 19, 2.* and stripping him, put a scarlet cloke about him, 29and platting a crowne of thornes, put it upon his head, and a reed in his right hand. And bowing the knee before him, they mocked him, saying: Haile King of the Jewes. 30And spitting upon him, they tooke the reed, and smote his head. 31And after they had mocked him, they tooke of the cloke from him, and put on him his owne garments, and led him away to crucifie him. 32And in going they found a man of Cyréne, named Simon: him they forced to take up his Crosse. And when he had tasted, he would not drinke.

35And after they had crucified him, they devided his garments, casting lots; that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Prophet, saying: Psal. 21, 19.They devided my garments among them; and upon my vesture they did cast lots. 36And they sate and watched him. 37And they put over his head his cause written, This is Jesus the king of the jewes. 38Then were crucified with him two theeves: one on the right hand, and one on the left. 39And they that passed by, blasphemed him wagging their heads, 40and saying: Vah, thou that destroyest the Temple of God and in three dayes doest reedifie it; save thine owne self: ″ if thou be the Sonne of God, come downe from the Crosse. 41In like manner also the cheefe Priests with the Scribes and Ancients mocking, said: 42He saved other; himself he can not save: if he be the King of Israel, let him now come downe from the Crosse, and we wil beleeve him. 43 Psal. 21, 9.
Sap. 2, 18.
* He trusted in God; let him now deliver him if he wil: for he said that I am the Sonne of God. 44And the self same thing the theeves also that were crucified with him, reproched him withal.
