SHIMOGAMO

Shimogamo was built by Tenmu Tenno in commemmotion of Tamayorihime who lived a long time ago.

It is so distingushed that the Emperors of Japan almost always went there when it is an holiday or Matsri.

On that account it is one of the temples the expences of which are provided by the Government.

It is a splendid temple with three gates before the Honshia or the building where the deity is put.

The temple which is surrounded by a lay grove of fine old trees.

It lies in the northern part of this city, where the river Kamogawa forks, and is 20 Chios from Sanjio.
