And be it further enacted, That the sum of twenty-Eve Pay of Texas thousand dollars be, and the same is hereby appropriated out of any money "°1““*°°”· in the treasury not otherwise appropriated, to pay the necessary expenses of six companies of volunteers called into the service of the United States, by Brigadier-General Smith, in the State of Texas, to be paid under the direction of the Secretary of War. And be it further enacted, That the Secretary of the Interior Temporary be authorized, in his discretion, the employment of temporary clerks by °1‘;‘;§SJt$‘ £‘f1P“"t" superintendents of Indian affairs, on such occasions and for such periods of $5,1;,-S_ um time as he may deem necessary to the public service; for which purpose there is hereby appropriated the sum of five thousand dollars. And be it further enacted, That the seventh section of the Salaries of act of eighteenth January, eighteen hundred and thirty-seven, entitled $****8*} mm M “ An act supplementary to an act establishing the mint, and regulating elvgayfsgngi the eoinslof the United States," be so amended as to extend the allowance for the annual salary of the clerks in the branch mint of the United States at New Orleans, to eighteen hundred dollars each, from and after the first day of July, eighteen hundred and fifty-four, at the discretion of the officers authorized by law to appoint, with the approbation of the President of the United States. And be it further enacted, That the tenth section of the act paylmnts to making appropriations for the current and contingent expenses of the Ch¤F<>l<°°¤· Indian Department, and for fulfilling treaty stipulations with various Indian tribes, approved July thirty-first, eighteen hundred and fifty-four, be 185% °h· 167- carried into efeet by paying the valuations, ascertained and reported by Messrs. Upton and Summey, and other oiilcial assessors, as ordered by the commissioners, under the Cherokee treaty of eighteen hundred and thirty-five, and eighteen hundred and thirty-six, with interest on sand valuations respectively from the date of the said o0mmissioners’ orders for assessment; and that the Secretary of the Interior be further directed to vox,. x.
