101st Congress -- i Joint Resolution May 2, 1989 To designate April 30, 1989, as "National Society of the Sons of the American [SJ, Res. 84] Revolution Centennial Day". Whereas the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolu- tion was established on April 30, 1889; Whereas through patriotic, historical, and educational activities, the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution perpet- uates the memory of the patriots of the American Revolutionary War who achieved the independence of the United States; Whereas the activities of the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution are designed to inspire the descendants of the patriots of the American Revolution and the people of the United States with respect and reverence for the principles of government that were established by the patriots; and Whereas the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolu- tion celebrates its centennial in 1989: Now, therefore, be it Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled. That April 30, 1989, is designated as "National Swiety of the Sons of the American Revolu- tion Centennial Day", and the President of the United States is authorized and requested to issue a proclamation calling upon the people of the United States to observe the day with appropriate ceremonies and activities.
