[S. 1521] Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, SECTION 1. INCREASE IN THE MAXIMUM RATES OF BASIC PAY FOR THE POLICE FORCE OF THE NATIONAL ZOOLOGICAL PARK. (a) IN GENERAL.— Section 5375 of title 5, United States Code, is amended to read as follows: "§ 5375. Police force of the National Zoological Park "The Secretary of the Smithsonian Institution shall fix the annual rates of basic pay for positions on the police force of the National Zoological Park as follows: "(1) Private, not more than the maximum annual rate of basic pav payable for grade GS-7 of the General Schedule. '(2) Sergeant, not more than the maximum annual rate of basic pay payable for grade GS-8, of the General Schedule. "(3) Lieutenant, not more than the maximum annual rate of basic pay payable for grade GS-9 of the General Schedule. "(4) Captain, not more than the maximum annual rate of basic pay payable for grade GS-10 of the General Schedule.". (b) CLERICAL AMENDMENT. —The item relating to section 5375 in the table of sections for chapter 53 of title 5, United States Code, is amended to read as follows: "5375. Police force of the National Zoological Park.". SEC. 2. EFFECTIVE DATE. 5 USC 5375 note. The amendments made by section 1 shall apply with respect to pay periods beginning after the date of the enactment of this Act. Approved April 4, 1990.
