The Armed Forces are authorized strengths for active duty personnel as of September 30, 1995, as follows: (1) The Army, 510,000. (2) The Navy, 441,641. (3) The Marine Corps, 174,000. (4) The Air Force, 400,051. SEC. 402. TEMPORARY VARIATION OF END STRENGTH LIMITATIONS 10 USC 523 note. FOR ARMY MAJORS AND LIEUTENANT COLONELS. (a) VARIATION AUTHORIZED.— In the administration of the limitation under section 523(a)(1) of title 10, United States Code, for fiscal years 1995 through 1997, the numbers applicable to officers of the Army serving on active duty in the grades of major and lieutenant colonel shall be the numbers set forth for that fiscal year in subsection (b) (rather than the numbers determined in accordance with the table in that section). SEC. 403. EXTENSION OF TEMPORARY VARIATION OF END STRENGTH LIMITATIONS FOR MARINE CORPS MAJORS AND LIEUTENANT COLONELS. (a) EXTENSION OF AUTHORITY. —Subsection (a) of section 402 of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 1994 (Public Law 103-160; 107 Stat. 1639; 10 U.S.C. 523 note) is amended by striking out "and 1995" and inserting in lieu thereof "through 1997".
