110 STAT. 360 PUBLIC LAW 104-106—FEB. 10, 1996 (e) SPECIAL PAY FOR NUCLEAR QUALIFIED OFFICERS EXTENDING PERIOD OF ACTIVE SERVICE. —Section 312(e) of title 37, United States Code, is amended by striking out "September 30, 1996" and inserting in lieu thereof "September 30, 1997". (f) NUCLEAR CAREER ACCESSION BONUS. —Section 312b(c) of title 37, United States Code, is amended by striking out "September 30, 1996" and inserting in lieu thereof "September 30, 1997". (g) NUCLEAR CAREER ANNUAL INCENTIVE BONUS. —Section 312c(d) of title 37, United States Code, is amended by striking out "October 1, 1996" and inserting in lieu thereof "October 1, 1997". (h) REPAYMENT OF EDUCATION LOANS FOR CERTAIN HEALTH PROFESSIONALS WHO SERVE IN THE SELECTED RESERVE. —Section 16302(d) of title 10, United States Code, is amended by striking out "October 1, 1996" and inserting in lieu thereof "October 1, 1997". 37 USC 3016 (i) COVERAGE OF PERIOD OF LAPSED AGREEMENT AUTHORITY.— note. (1) In the case of an officer described in section 301b(b) of title 37, United States Code, who executes an agreement described in paragraph (2) during the 90-day period beginning on the date of the enactment of this Act, the Secretary concerned may treat the agreement for purposes of the retention bonus authorized under the agreement as having been executed and accepted on the first date on which the officer would have qualified for such an agreement had the amendment made by subsection (a) taken effect on October 1, 1995. (2) An agreement referred to in this subsection is a service agreement with the Secretary concerned that is a condition for the payment of a retention bonus under section 301b of title 37, United States Code. (3) For purposes of this subsection, the term "Secretary concerned" has the meaning given that term in section 101(5) of title 37, United States Code. SEC. 614. CODIFICATION AND EXTENSION OF SPECIAL PAY FOR CRITI- CALLY SHORT WARTIME HEALTH SPECIALISTS IN THE SELECTED RESERVES. (a) SPECIAL PAY AUTHORIZED. —(1) Chapter 5 of title 37, United States Code, is amended by inserting after section 302f the following new section: "§302g. Special pay: Selected Reserve health care professionals in critically short wartime specialties "(a) SPECIAL PAY AUTHORIZED. —An officer of a reserve component of the armed forces described in subsection (b) who executes a written agreement under which the officer agrees to serve in the Selected Reserve of an armed force for a period of not less than one year nor more than three years, beginning on the date the officer accepts the award of special pay under this section, may be paid special pay at an annual rate not to exceed $10,000. "(b) ELIGIBLE OFFICERS. — An officer referred to in subsection (a) is an officer in a health care profession who is qualified in a specialty designated by regulations as a critically short wartime specialty. "(c) TIME FOR PAYMENT.—Special pay under this section shall be paid annually at the beginning of each twelve-month period for which the officer has agreed to serve.
