SEC. 616. INCREASE IN DENTAL OFFICER ADDITIONAL SPECIAL PAY. (a) INCREASE.—Section 302b(a)( 4 ) of title 37, United States Code, is amended— (1) in the matter preceding subparagraph (A), by striking ‘‘at the following rates’’ and inserting ‘‘at a rate determined by the Secretary concerned, which rate may not e x ceed the following’’
(2) in subparagraph (A), by striking ‘‘$4,000’’ and inserting ‘‘$10,000’’; and (3) in subparagraph (B), by striking ‘‘$ 6 ,000’’ and inserting ‘‘$12,000’’. (b) EFFECTIVE DATE.—The amendments made by this section shall apply with respect to agreements entered into under section 302b(b) of title 37, United States Code, on or after the date of the enactment of this Act. SEC. 61 7 . INCREASE IN MA X IMUM MONT H LY RATE OF HARDSHIP DUTY PAY AND AUTHORITY TO PROVIDE HARDSHIP DUTY PAY IN A LUMP SUM. Section 305 of title 37, United States Code, is amended to read as follows

‘ §305.Special pa y:h a rds hip d ut y pay ‘‘(a) SPECIAL PAY AUT H ORI Z E D .—A member of a uniformed ser v ice who is entitled to basic pay may be paid special pay under this section while the member is performing duty that is designated by the Secretary of Defense as hardship duty. ‘‘(b) PAY M ENT ON MONTHLY OR L UMP SUM BASIS.—Special pay payable under this section may be paid on a monthly basis or in a lump sum. ‘‘(c) MA X IMUM RATE OR AMOUNT.—(1) The monthly rate of spe - cial pay payable to a member under this section may not exceed $1,500. ‘‘(2) The amount of the lump sum payment of special pay payable to a member under this section may not exceed the product of— ‘‘(A) the maximum monthly rate in effect under paragraph (1) at the time the member q ualifies for payment of special pay under this section; and ‘‘(B) the number of months during which the member will be performing the designated hardship duty. ‘‘(d) RELATIONSHIP TO O THER PAY AND ALLO W ANCES.—Special pay paid to a member under this section is in addition to any other pay and allowances to which the member is entitled. 37USC 3 02bnote. 37 USC 30 1d note.
