(a)INGE NE RAL.—Subsection ( f ) of section 9503 oft h e Inte r na lR e v enue C o d eof 1 9 86 (relatin g to deter m ination of trust fund balances after Se p tember 30 , 1998) is amended— (1) b y redesignating paragraphs (1) and ( 2 ) as subpara - graphs ( A )and( B ), respectively, and by moving such subpara- graphs 2 ems to the right, (2) by stri k ing ‘ ‘ F or purposes ’ ’ and inserting the follo w ing
‘‘(1) IN G ENERAL.—For purposes’’, (3) by moving the flush sentence at the end of paragraph (1), as so amended, 2 ems to the right, and ( 4 ) by adding at the end the following new paragraph: ‘‘(2) RE STO RAT I ONO F F U N DB ALAN C E.— O ut of money in the T reasury not otherwise appropriated, there is hereby appro- priated to the H ighway Trust Fund $ 8,01 7 ,000,000.’’. (b) CONFOR M ING AMENDMENT.—The last sentence of section 9503(f)(1) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986, as amended by subsection (a), is amended by striking ‘‘subsection’’ and inserting ‘‘paragraph’’. (c) E FFECTI V E D ATE.—The amendments made by this section shall take effect on the date of the enactment of this Act.
