(d) A P PROPR IATE CO NG RE S SIONA L COMMITTEES DE F INE D .— I n this section, the term ‘ ‘appropriate congressional committees ’ ’ means— (1) the Committee on Appropriations, the Committee on Armed Services, and the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the House of Representatives; and (2) the Committee on Appropriations, the Committee on Armed Services, and the Committee on Foreign Relations of the Senate. (a) PROGRAM FOR ASSISTAN C E.—Section 1207 of the N ational Defense Authori z ation Act for Fiscal Y ear 2006 (Public L aw 109 – 16 3

4 5 8 ) is amended— (1) by redesignating subsections (d), (e), and (f) as sub- sections (e), (f), and (g), respectively; and (2) by inserting after subsection (c) the following

‘‘(d) FORM U LATION AND IMPLEMENTATION OF PROGRAM FOR ASSISTANCE.—The Secretary of State shall coordinate with the Sec- retary of Defense in the formulation and implementation of a pro- gram of reconstruction, security, or stabilization assistance to a foreign country that involves the provision of services or transfer of defense articles or funds under subsection (a).’’. (b) O NE-YEAR E X TENSION.—Subsection (g) of such section, as redesignated by subsection (a) of this section, is amended by striking ‘‘September 30, 2007’’ and inserting ‘‘September 30, 2008’’. SEC. 1211. G O V ERNMENT ACCOUNTABILITY OFFICE RE P ORT ON GLOBAL PEACE OPERATIONS INITIATIVE. (a) REPORT RE Q UIRED.—Not later than J une 1, 2008, the Comp- troller General of the United States shall submit to the congres- sional defense committees, the Committee on Foreign Relations of the Senate, and the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the House of Representatives a report assessing the Global Peace Operations Initiative. (b) CONTENT.—The report required under subsection (a) shall include the following: (1) An assessment of whether, and to what extent, the Global Peace Operations Initiative has met the goals set by the President at the inception of the program in 2004. (2) W hich goals, if any, remain unfulfilled. (3) A description of activities conducted by each member state of the Group of Eight (G–8), including the approximate cost of the activities, and the approximate percentage of the
