(a) IN GENERAL.—Title VI of the Native American Housing Assistance and Self-Determination Act of 1996 (25 U.S.C. 4191 et seq.) is amended by adding at the end the following: ‘‘SEC. 606. DEMONSTRATION PROGRAM FOR GUARANTEED LOANS TO FINANCE TRIBAL COMMUNITY AND ECONOMIC DEVELOP- MENT ACTIVITIES. ‘‘(a) A U T H ORIT Y .— ‘‘(1) IN GENERAL.—Subject to paragraph (2) , tothee x tent and in such amounts as are provided in appropriation Acts, subject to the requirements of this section, and in accordance with such terms and conditions as the Secretary may prescribe, the Secretary may guarantee and ma k e commitments to guar- antee the notes and obligations issued by Indian tribes or tribally designated housing entities with tribal approval, for the purposes of financing activities carried out on Indian res- ervations and in other Indian areas that, under the first sen- tence of section 108(a) of the Housing and Community Develop- ment Act of 1974 (42 U.S.C. 5 3 08), are eligible for financing with notes and other obligations guaranteed pursuant to that section. 25USC4196. 25 USC 41 8 4.
