Cha´ v ez and the farm la b or movement in the w estern U nited States to determine —(1) appropriate methods for preserving and interpreting the sites
and ( 2 ) whether any of the sites meets the criteria for listing on the N ational R egister of H istoric P laces or designation as a national historic landmar k under— (A) the Act of August 21, 1 935 (1 6 U.S.C. 4 61 et se q .); or ( B ) the National Historic Preservation Act (16 U.S.C. 4 70 et seq.). (b) R EQUIR E M E NTS .— I n conducting the study under subsection (a), the Secretary shall— (1) consider the criteria for the study of areas for potential inclusion in the National Park System under section 8 (b)(2) of Public L aw 91 – 383 (16 U.S.C. 1a–5(b)(2)); and (2) consult with— (A) the Ce´ sar E. Cha´ vez F oundation; (B) the United Farm W orkers Union; and (C) State and local historical associations and societies, including any State historic preservation offices in the State in which the site is located. (c) RE PO RT.— O n completion of the study, the Secretary shall submit to the Committee on Natural Resources of the House of Representatives and the Committee on Energy and Natural Resources of the Senate a report that describes— (1) the findings of the study; and (2) any recommendations of the Secretary. (d) AUT H ORI ZA TION O F APPROPRIATIONS.— T here are authorized to be appropriated such sums as are necessary to carry out this section. SEC.326 . TAUN T O N ,M ASSAC H USETTS, S P EC I A LR ESOURCE STU DY . (a) IN G ENERA L .—The Secretary of the Interior (referred to in this section as the ‘ ‘Secretary ’ ’), in consultation with the appro- priate State historic preservation officers, State historical societies, the city of Taunton, M assachusetts, and other appropriate organiza- tions, shall conduct a special resources study regarding the suit- ability and feasibility of designating certain historic buildings and areas in Taunton, Massachusetts, as a unit of the National Park System. The study shall be conducted and completed in accordance with section 8(c) of Public Law 91–383 (16 U.S.C. 1a–5(c)) and shall include analysis, documentation, and determinations regarding whether the historic areas in Taunton— (1) can be managed, curated, interpreted, restored, pre- served, and presented as an organic whole under management by the National Park Service or under an alternative manage- ment structure; (2) have an assemblage of natural, historic, and cultural resources that together represent distinctive aspects of Amer- ican heritage worthy of recognition, conservation, interpreta- tion, and continuing use; (3) reflect traditions, customs, beliefs, and historical events that are valuable parts of the national story;
