(b) S TUDYREQ U IR E M E N T S . —T he Secretary shall conduct the study re q uired under subsection (a) in accordance w ith section 8 (c) of Public L aw 91–3 83 (1 6U .S. C . 1a– 5 (c)). (c) RE PO RT.—Not later than 3 years after the date on which funds are made available to carry out this section, the Secretary shall submit to the Committee on Natural Resources of the H ouse of Representatives and the Committee on E nergy and Natural Resources of the Senate a report containing— (1) the results of the study conducted under subsection (a); and (2) any recommendations of the Secretary with respect to the birthplace site. SEC.7208 . BAT T L E OFM ATE W A N S P EC I AL R ESO U RCE STU DY . (a) I N G ENER AL .—The Secretary of the Interior (referred to in this section as the ‘ ‘Secretary ’ ’) shall conduct a special resource study of the sites and resources at M atewan, W est V irginia, associ - ated with the Battle of Matewan (also known as the ‘‘Matewan Massacre’’) of May 19, 192 0 , to determine— (1) the suitability and feasibility of designating certain historic areas of Matewan, West Virginia, as a unit of the National Park System; and (2) the methods and means for the protection and interpretation of the historic areas by the National Park Service, other Federal, State, or local government entities, or private or nonprofit organizations. (b) STUDY REQUIREMENTS.—The Secretary shall conduct the study required under subsection (a) in accordance with section 8(c) of Public Law 91–383 (16 U.S.C. 1a–5(c)). (c) REPORT.—Not later than 3 years after the date on which funds are made available to carry out this section, the Secretary shall submit to the Committee on Natural Resources of the House of Representatives and the Committee on Energy and Natural Resources of the Senate a report containing— (1) the results of the study conducted under subsection (a); and (2) any recommendations of the Secretary with respect to the historic areas. SEC. 720 9 . BUTTERFIELD O V ERLAND TRAIL. (a) IN GENERAL.—The Secretary of the Interior (referred to in this section as the ‘‘Secretary’’) shall conduct a special resource study along the route known as the ‘‘ Ox -Bow Route’’ of the Butterfield Overland Trail (referred to in this section as the ‘‘route’’) in the States of Missouri, Tennessee, A rkansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and California to evaluate— (1) a range of alternatives for protecting and interpreting the resources of the route, including alternatives for potential addition of the Trail to the National Trails System; and (2) the methods and means for the protection and interpretation of the route by the National Park Service, other Sta t elis ti ng.W est V i r ginia.
