‘‘, particularly those who were consid - ered, at the time of their ser v ice, disadvantaged youth’’. SEC. 131 4 . TER M S OF SERVICE. Section 139 (42 U.S.C. 12593) is amended— (1) in subsection (b)— (A) in paragraph (1), by striking ‘‘not less than 9 months and’’; (B) in paragraph (2), by striking ‘‘during a period of— ’’ and all that follows through the period at the end and inserting ‘‘during a period of not more than 2 years.’’; and (C) by adding at the end the following: ‘‘(4) EXTENSIO NO F TE RM FOR D IS A STER PU RPOSES.— ‘‘(A) EXTENSION.—An individual in an approved national service position performing service directly related to disaster relief efforts may continue in a term of service for a period of 9 0 days beyond the period otherwise specified in, as appropriate, this subsection or section 153(d) or in section 104 of the D omestic V olunteer Service Act of 19 7 3 (42 U.S.C. 4954). ‘‘(B) SIN GL E TERM OF SER V I C E.—A period of service performed by an individual in an originally-agreed to term of service and service performed under this paragraph shall constitute a single term of service for purposes of sub- sections (b)(1) and (c) of section 14 6 . ‘‘(C) BENEFITS.—An individual performing service under this paragraph may continue to receive a living allowance and other benefits under section 140 but may not receive an additional national service educational award under section 141.’’; and (2) in subsection (c)— (A) in paragraph (1)(A), by striking ‘‘as demonstrated by the participant’’ and inserting ‘‘as determined by the organi z ation responsible for granting the release, if the participant has otherwise performed satisfactorily and has completed at least 15 percent of the term of service’’; and (B) in paragraph (2)— (i) in subparagraph (A), by striking ‘‘provide to the participant that portion of the national service educational award’’ and inserting ‘‘certify the partici- pant’s eligibility for that portion of the national service educational award’’; and
