and ( 2 ) the Committee on Armed Services, the Committee on Foreign Relations, and the Committee on Appropriations of the Senate. SEC.123 2. R E PO R T O N PRO G RESS TO WA R D SEC U R I T Y AND STA B I L ITY IN PA K ISTAN. (a) REPORT RE QU IRED.—The P resident shall submit to Congress a report on the progress to w ard long-term security and stability in Pa k istan. The report required under this subsection shall be submitted concurrent with the submission of each report under section 12 3 2ofthe N ational Defense Authori z ation Act for Fiscal Y ear 2 0 0 8 (Public L aw 110 – 181; 122 Stat. 3 9 2), as amended by section 121 7 of the Duncan Hunter National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2009 (Public Law 110– 4 17; 122 Stat. 4 6 34), on or after the date of the enactment of this Act. (b) E LEMENTS.—The report required under subsection (a) shall address, at a minimum, the following elements

(1) The effectiveness of efforts to achieve the following strategic goals: (A) To disrupt, dismantle, and defeat al Q a’ida, its affiliated networks, and other extremist forces in Pakistan. ( B ) To eliminate the safe havens for such forces in Pakistan. (C) To prevent the return of such forces to Pakistan or Afghanistan. (2) The effectiveness of U nited States security assistance to Pakistan to achieve the strategic goals described in para- graph (1). (3) For any strategic goal addressed under this subsection, a description of any additional goals and ob j ectives, and the timelines for meeting such goals and objectives. (4) A description of the metrics used to assess progress toward each goal and objective and along each timeline described in paragraph (3). (c) FORM.—The report required under subsection (a) shall be transmitted in unclassified form, but may contain a classified annex if necessary. SEC. 1233. REPEAL O F GAO WAR - RELATED REPORTING RE Q UIRE M ENT. Section 1221(c) of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2006 (Public Law 109–163; 119 Stat. 3462) is amended by striking the following: ‘‘Based on these reports, the Comptroller G eneral shall provide to Congress quarterly updates on the costs of O peration Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom.’’. 10USC 11 3note.Pr e sid ent.
