SPECIAL ASSISTANCE TO T H E PRESIDENT SALARIES AND E X PENSES For necessary expenses to enable the Vice President to provide assistance to the President in connection with specially assigned functions; services as authorized by 5 U.S.C. 3109 and 3 U.S.C. 106, including subsistence expenses as authorized by 3 U.S.C. 106, which shall be expended and accounted for as provided in that section; and hire of passenger motor vehicles, $ 4 ,496,000. OFFICIAL R ESIDENCE OF THE VICE PRESIDENT OPERATING EXPENSES (INCLUDING TRANSFER OF FUNDS) For the care, operation, refurnishing, improvement, and to the extent not otherwise provided for, heating and lighting, including electric power and fixtures, of the official residence of the Vice President; the hire of passenger motor vehicles; and not to exceed $90,000 for official entertainment expenses of the Vice President, to be accounted for solely on his certificate, $323,000

Provided, That advances or repayments or transfers from this appropriation may be made to any department or agency for expenses of carrying out such activities.
