Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Represematz'ves of the United Branch mint States of America in Congress assembled, That a branch of the mint of §;‘*”bl‘sh‘?d at the United States be located and established at Dalles City, in the State alles City, . . ORS0n_ of Oregon, for the coinage of gold and silver. Sm. 2. And be it further enacted, That, for carrying on the business Umm of the of the said branch, the following ofhccrs shall be appointed, as s00n as bwmh mint- the public interest shall require their service, upon the nomination of the President, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate, namely: one superintendent, one assaycr, and one mcltcr and rciiner, and one coincr; Clerksqvork- and the superintendent shall employ as many clerks, subordinate workm€¤» &°· men and laborers, under the direction of the Secretary of the Treasury, Salaries- as may be required. The salaries of the said officers and clerks shall bc as follows: T0 the superintendent, the sum of two thousand dollars; to the assaycr, the sum of eighteen hundred dollars; to the mcltcr and rsfiner, eighteen hundred dollars; to the clerks, subordinate workmen, and laborers, such wagcsand allowances as arc customary, according to their respective stations and occupations. And be it further enacted, That the officers and clerks to bc t“k° °“lh‘ appointed under this act, before entering upon the execution of their ofliccs, shall take an oath or ahirmation before some judge of the United States or of the supreme court of said state, fhithfully and diligently to perform the duties of their offices, and shall each become bound to the United States of America, with one or more surcties,to the satisfaction 0f the director of the mint or tho district judge of the United States for the district of Oregon and of the Sccrctary of the Treasury, with the condition of the faithful performance of the duties of their officcs.
