I hereby certify that, pursuant to the order from the Commissioner of Indian Affairs, `dated August. fourth, one thousand eight hundred and sixty-eight, I visited and held councils with the various bands of Ute Indians, at the times and places named in this instrument; and to all those familiar with the provisions of the treaty referred to have had the Senate amendment fully interpreted to them, and to all those not familiar with the treaty itself I have had the same fully explained and interpreted; and the forty-seven chiefs whose names are hereunto subscribed, placed their names to this instrument with the full knowledge of its contents and likewise with the provisions of the treaty itself Given under my hand at Denver, this fourteenth day of October, one thousand eight hundred and sixty-eight. Now, therefore, be it known that I, Ammnw Jonsson, President of Pmcidmdd. the United States of America, do, in pursuance of the advice and consent of the Senate, as expressed in its resolution of the twenty-fifth day of July, one thousand eight hundred and sixty-eight, accept, ratify, and confirm the said treaty, with the amendment, as aforesaid. In testimony whereof I have hereto signed my name, and caused the seal of the United States to be affixed.
