Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United Peymevt *0 S¤· States of America in Congress assembled, That the proper accounting ml E' Rh""' officers of the Treasury be, and they are hereby, authorized and directed to pay to Susan E. Rhea, who was the widow of J. Burrows Gardiner, a surgeon in the navy of Texas at the time of the annexation of said republic to the United States, the compensation which he would have received had he been living at the date of the passage of the act of Congress of March third, eighteen hundred and fifty-seven: Provided, That the acceptance-of the provisions of this act shall be a full relin~ quishment of all claims on the part of the said Gardiner, or any other person or persons, for further compensation in this behalf from the Government of the United States.
