Lighting the Executive Mansion and public grounds: For gas, pay of lamp-lighters, gasditters, plumbers, plumbing, lamp-posts, matches and repairs of all kinds; fuel for office, for the watchmen’s lodges, and rama. lor the green-houses in the nursery, fifteen thousand dollars: Provided, That for each burner not connected with a meter in the lamps on the public grounds no more than twenty-five dollars shall be paid per lamp lor gas, including lighting, cleaning, and keeping in repair the lamps, under any expenditure provided for in this act; and in case a contract cannot be made at that rate the engineer in charge is hereby authorized to substimte other illuminating material in the lamps on the public grounds, and to use so much of the sum hereby appropriated as may he necessary for that purpose.
