Missouri River That a Commission to be called the Missouri River Commission is €t•;¤:1~¤¤i¤¤i¤¤ ¢r•- hereby created, to consist of live members. ° A,],,,,,,,,,,,,,,, of That the President shall nominate and, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate, appoint five Commissioners, three of whom shall be selected from the Corps of Engineers of the Army and two from civil life, one of whom at least shall be a civil Engineer; and he shall in like manner fill any vacancy in said Commission; and he shall designate one of the Commissioners appointed from the Corps of Engineers to be president of the Commission. The Commissioners appointed from Compensation. the Corps of Engineers shall receive no other pay or compensation than is allowed them by law, and the other two Commissioners shall each receive for their services pay at the rate of two thousand five hundred dollars per annum, out of any money appropriated for the Missouri River; and all said Commissioners shall remain in omee sunject to removal by the President of the United States. Duties. That it shall be the duty of said Commission to superintend and direct such improvement of said liver and to carry into execution such plans for the improvement of the navigation of said river from its mouth to its headwaters as may now be devised and in progress, and to continue and complete such surveys as may now be in progress, and to make such additional surveys, examinations, and investigations, topographical, hydrographical, and hydrometrical and to cousider,devise, and mature such additional plan or plans, and all such estimates as may be deemed necessary and best, to obtain and maintain a channel and depth of water in said river sufficient for the purposes ofcommerce
