CHS. 306. 307. 1888. 155 t_ CHAP. 3Q§.-—An act to provide for the survey of certain historic grounds, loca- Ma? 2% 1*%%* ions, and military works. —————— Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Unztecl States of America in Congress assembled, That the Secretary S"""!' of histeric of lVar be, and is hereby, authorized and directed to cause to be gmuHdS`m' made, by an officer of the Engineer Corps, in co-operation with the Maumee Valley Monumental Association, an examination and inspection of each of the following-named historic grounds, locations. and military works, to wit: ' The burial-place on Put—in—Bay Island of the sailors of the Navy Put-i¤·B¤>¤ in the war of eighteen hundred and twelve. Fort Industry, at the mouth of Swan Creek, on the Maumee River. Fm industnr Fort Miami, on the north and west side of the Maumee River Fon Miami. seven miles above Fort Industry. ’ Fort Meigs, and the burial grounds of the soldiers of the war of Fm Meigseighteen hundred and twelve, near the same, on the south and east léankkof the Maumee River. ten miles above the mouth of Swan ree . A suitable portion of the battleeiield of Fallen Timber, on the F¤“*¤Ti¤¤*><=¤>¤¤1¤~ north and west bank of the Maumee River, four miles above Fort ground Meigs, where Anthony Wayrne defeated the allied Indian nations und? gfurkey Foot, August twentieth, seventeen hundred and nine - our. Ford; Defiance. at the coniluence of the Auglaize and Maumee Fw Defiance. Rigers, esecgsed by General Wayrne in August, seventeen hundred an nine - our. Fort Vaayne, at Fort Wayne, Indiana, at the confluence of the Fm “`¤>’¤¤- Saint Joe and Saint Mary’s Rivers, which was erected by General Wayne in October, seventeen hundred and ninet -four. And he shall cause to be made a survey and fullyreport to Congress Revert to Congress of the location, situation, and condition of the same, and the amount of grounds necessary for the proper rotection and improvement of the aforesaid works, forts, battle-neldls, and burial places in and near the same, as well as the probable cost thereof; and the said report shall be accompanied with the necessary maps and drawings. Sec. :2,. That the President fcfQf;_[_”*Q}°*,1_¤x}l€r§é;,¤; of the United States be, and he is hereby, requested and authorized unions. to invite the several Governments of the Republics of Mexico, Central and South America, Hayti, San Domingo, and the Empire of Brazil to join the United States in a conference to be held at \Vashington. in the United States, at such time as he may deem pro ier, in the year eighteen hundred and eighty-nine. for the purpose of discussing and recommending for adoption to their respective Governments some plan of arbitration for the settlement of disagreements and disputes that may hereafter arise between them. and for considering questions relating to the improvement of business intercourse and means of direct communication between said countries, and to encourage such reciprocal commercial relations as will be beneficial to all and secure more extensive markets for the products of each of said countries.
