Ch. 27. 1890. 693 CHAP. 27.-An act to rovide for the urchas si , e ` public building thereon, atl) Madison, in thld State dfolfndianiba. md th cmcmm of 3 Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the Secretary mmm, ma. of the Treasury be, and he is ereby, authorized and directed to mbuc buncmg, ac. ‘ accppre, byppurchase, condemnation, or otherwise, a site, and cause site to erect thereon a suitable building, including fire-proof vaults, mum;. heating and ventilating apparatus, elevators, and ap roaches, for the use and accommodation of the United States ost-ofdce and other Government offices, in the city of Madison and gtate of Indiana, the cost of said site and building, including said vaults, heating and . 0**- ventilating apparatus, elevators, and approache , complete, not to exceed the sum of fifty thousand dollars. Proposals for the sale of land suitable for said site shall be invited ¤> N Miby pu lic advertisement in one or more of the newspa ers of said city v° °° o largest circulation for at least twenty days priorto tlie date specified in said advertisement for the opening of said proposals. - Proposals made in response to said advertisement shall be addressed Mmmm and mailed to the Secretary of the Treasury, who shall then cause the said propgsed sites, and such others as he may think proper to designate, to examined in person by an agent of the Treasury De art- nxs¤um,e¤¤,a¤.,uy ment, who shall make written report to said Secretary of the resuits of T'°"“‘“`·' "°"'* said examination, and of his recommendation thereon, and the rea» sons therefor, which shall be accompanied by the original proposals and all maps, plats, and statements which shall have come into his possession relating to the said proposed sites.· If, upon consi eration of said report and accompanying papers, the Secretary of the Treasury shall eem further investigation necessary, he may appoint a commission of not more than three persons, éépgmmgm one of whom sha be an ohicer of the Treasury Department, which "‘ · commission shall also examine the said (proposed sites, and such others as the Secretary of the Treasury mgy esignate, and grant such hear- msrmgs. ings in relation thereto as they sh deem necessary; and said commission shall, within thirty days after such examination, make to the Exsmmumnmdre Secretary of the Treasury written report of their conclusion in the P'"' premises, accompanied by all statements, maps, plats, or documents taken by or submitted to them, in like manner as hereinbefore {go- ` vided in regard to the proceedings of said agent of the Treasury e- partment; and the Secretary of the Treasury shall thereupon finally new-mmuos meetermine the location of the building to be erected. °“"°"· The compensation of said commissioners shall be fixed ly the Seci oompewumerwmretary of the Treasury, but the same shall not exceed six ollars per ”‘“'*°¤°’°· day and actual trave ing expenses: Provided, however, That the Promo. member of said commission appointed from the Treasury Depart- T"’“‘“'·" "‘°‘“"°’· ment shall be paid only his actual traveling expenses.
