M'*"°h 8- lm- Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the U nited States of America in Congress assembled That the artillery of the Army jjlnyihom, N i shall consist of seven regiments, and that the total number of enlisted ments or msuay dt men in the Army of the United States, including Indian scouts and the {{,'§,f*{,f",$g,,_},*,;,§;;,_§,,f’}’· Hospital Corps, shall be increased one thousand six hundred and ten, rm,pp.au2,m,sm. the increase to be exclusively for the artillery arm. Sec. 2. That each regiment of artillery shall consist of one colonel, mgggiggfgg one lieutenant-colonel, three majors, twelve captains, fourteen nrst pm'" lieutenants, twelve second lieutenants, one sergeant-major, one quartermaster-sergeant, one chief musician, two principal musicians, and twelve batteries: Provided, That two batteries of each regiment may, gfym R in the discretion of the President,be organized as iield artillery, and s., sec. 1101,upl` mj each battery that may be so organized shall have, in addition to the *““°“"°“· battery organization now authorized by law, four corporals, two farriers, and one saddler: And provided further, That each of the remaining A*}m‘““°"“l °°”· batteries that are not organized as iield artillery may, in the discretion gm ` of the President, have two additional sergeants. Sec. 3. That all vacancies created or caused by this Act shall be iilled P¤>¤=°**°¤¤· by promotion, according to seniority, from the next lower grade in the arm; and the existing provisions of law governing examinations for Vol.26.P·562- promotion shall apply to appointments made under this Act.
