PUNISHMENT I¤·oR VIOLATIONS OF INTERNAL-REVENUE LAWS: For Ijuninhmnt forvw detecting and bringing to trial and punishment persons guilty of vio- {,’§f,§‘f,°,§$§Q}‘°°"““1"°v‘ lating the internakrevenue laws or connivingat the same, including . payments for information and detection of such violations, seventy-five thousand dollars; and the Commissioner of Internal Revenue shall make a detailed statement to Congress once in each year as to how he has expended this sum, and also a detailed statement of all miscellaneous expenditures in the Bureau of Internal Revenue for which appropriation is made in this Act: Provided, That necessary books of reierence and {,’m{_·¤· of mh periodicals for the chemical laboratory and law library, at a cost not to for cneiiiimi m»¤· ` exceed one hundred dollars, may be purchased out of the appropriation *°’>’· made for the iiscal year eighteen hundred and ninety-nine, for salaries and expenses of agents and surveyors, fees and expenses of gangers, salaries of storekeepers, and for miscellaneous expenses.
