Said bailiifs inay act as deputies to the marshal for service of process issued by the court. The said court may also appoint a doorkeeper at a salary of five hundred and forty dollars per annum, an engineer at a salary of nine hundred dollars per annum, and a janitor at a salary of four hundred and fifty dollars per annum. SEC; 56. SALARIES, How PAID.·—··Th€ salaries of the judges, clerk, S*‘“*“°S· ¥‘°“' ¥""d· deputy clerks, bailiffs, deputy marshal, doorkeeper, engineer. and janitor of the said court shall be paid as other salaries of the District of Columbia, from appropriations made by Congress as provided in the Act of June eleventh, eighteen hundred and seventy-eiglit. _ _ Sec. 57. ExEcUr1oxs AND FORFEITED REoocN1zANoEs.—The said f,§;;§,‘{“‘Q§.§Q,‘g§,§Q,l§{fQ§f court shall have power to issue execution on all forfeited recognizances, upon 111otion of the proper prosecuting officer, and all writs of iieri facias or other writs of execution on judgments issued by said court shall be directed to and executed by the marshal of the District. Sec. 58. Fines to be paid to the clerk of the police court: All iines, €\5‘;gg}jgj%§f;,g‘}*’f"‘°"‘ penalties, costs and forfeitures imposed or taxed by the police court ` shall be paid to the clerk of said court, either with or without process or on process ordered by the court. The clerk of the police court shall, on the first secular day of each week, deposit with the collector of taxes the total amount of all fines, penalties, costs and forfeitures collected by him during the week next preceding the date of such deposit, to be covered into the Treasury to the credit of the District of Colun1— _ bia, subject to the requirements of the provision of the Act of June l"1·2"·*`·‘°4· eleventh, eighteen hundred and ninety-six, to meet any deficiency in the police fund or the firemen’s relief fund. The said clerk shall render an itemized statement of each deposit aforesaid upon such forms and in such manner as shall be prescribed by the auditor of the District of Columbia. Sec. 59. Aoootnvzrs, How AUn1rEn.——It `shall be the duty of the itg}.f°°““”·"°"’ “““‘ ~ auditor of the District of Columbia. and he is hereby required, to audit the accounts of the clerk of the police court at the end of every quarter and to make prompt report thereof in writing to the Commissioners of the District of Columbia. In order td enable the auditor of the District to perform the duty hereby imposed u on him, he shall have free access to all books, papers, and records of tllie said court. SUBCHAPTER THREE. CoNsTrrUr1oN.—-The supreme court of the District shall C°“S‘“"“°“· continue as at present constituted, and consist of a chief justice and five associate justices, appointed by the President of the United States, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate, and holding their offices during good behavior. The chief justice and each associate 5¤l*“l€S= justice shall receive a salary of five thousand dollars per annum, which amounts shall be paid in monthly installments, out of the Treasury of the United States, and one-half thereof shall be charged against the revenues of the District of Columbia. SEc. 61. J URlSDICTION.—1`l1€ said court shall possess the same powers J¤¤iS<“¤¤<>¤- and exercise the same jurisdiction as the circuit and district courts of the United States, and shall be deemed a court of the UnitedStates, and shall also have and exercise all the jurisdiction possessed and exercised by the supreme court of the District of Columbia at the date of the passage of this code.
