_ · Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives qérthe United p,*},;}$·‘{Q; §gc*§' GQJQ; States of America in Congress assembled, That the Arizona ater Com- §L¤¤t¤¤t,Pim*=;1}1ri;0dia¤ pany, its successors and assigns, be, and it hereby is, authorized to erect, °°"° °“’construct, maintain, and operate a water-power(plant at the place on the Indian reservation set apart for the Pima an Marico a Indians by Executive order dated June fourteenth, eighteen hundred) and seventy- nine, in the County of Maricopa, Territory of Arizona, where the Arizona Canal, b means of a crosscut canal, dro s a portion of the wate1· back into the Salt River theretofore taken out by its dam and head gate. Said Arizona Water Company, its successors or assigns, is also authorized to erect, construct, and maintain the necessary poles and wires fo1· the purpose of transmitting across said reservation, at the most practicable and convenient route, the electricity to be generated by such

_ power plant: Provided, however, That said Arizona Water Company,

its successors or ass1gns, shall at all t1mes save and protect all persons on said Indian reservation from any and all damages which may be caused by_ the erection and maintenance of said power plant, pole line, and wires used in connectiontherewith. ` Approved, February 12, 1901. Railway Com any, a coiporation duly incorporated undei the laws of the State of Illinois, its successors and assigns, be, and is hereby, authorized to construct and maintain, at a point suitable to the interests of navigation, a bridge for the passage of railroad traiiic across -1¤¢¤¤¤¤· Rock River, in section seventeen, township seventeen, range one, from Rock Island County to the opposite shore of said rive1·, in Henry County, in the State of Illinois. at said bridge shall be built across S°°’°m,Y °* WM *° said river, following the course of the main channel; that the location 8ppI'OV€ P 8.DB. • · • . · and plan or manner of constructing said br1dge shall be subyect to the approval of the Secretary of War, and until decided by_ him to be such as will not materially affect the interests of navigation, said bridge shall not be built. A.nd there shall be submitted to the Secretary of VVar, for his examination and approval, a design and drawing of the proppsed bridge, and a map of the location, giving the topography of the anks of the river, the shore line at high and low water, the direction and strength of the currents at all stages, and the soundings accurately showing the bed of the stream, the location of any other bridge, and all other information required; and should any change be made in the lan of said brid e during the pro ress of construction such chan e ‘“d"° “““g““°“‘ shall) be subject to tie a proval of tie Secretary of “7A81‘. And tbe said structure shall at all time be so kept and managed, and be provided with such guard fences, sheer booms, and other structures as to oifer reasonable and proper means for the passage of vessels and othe1· Lights- iioating crafts through or under said structure; and for the safety of vessels passing at night there shall be displayed on said bridge, from the hours of sunset to sunrise, such lights as may be prescribed by the C¤¤¤8¤¤· Light-House Board; and the said structure shall be changed at the cost and the Wense of the owners thereof, from time to time, as the Secretary of ar may direct, so as to preserve the free and convenient navigation of said river. —
