That section eight of the Act of March third, eighteen hunvm. so, p. 1016; dred and niuetymine, is hereby amended sons toreadas follows: That '“'“°"°°°‘ after the completion and return of the enumeration and of the work u n the schedules relating to the products of stigriculture and to munugfcturing and mechanical establishments provided for in section seven of this Act, the Director of the Census is hereby authorized decennially t0 collect statistics relating to special classes, including the insane, feebleauinded, deaf, dumb, and bhnd; to crime, {muperism, and benevolence, including prisoners, paupers, juvenile de imiuents, and inmates of benevolent and reformatory institutions; to socia statistics of cities; to public indebtedness, valuation, taxation, and expenditures; to religious bodies; to electric light and power, telephone, and telegraph business; to transportation by water, express business, and street milwags; to mines, minin , quarries and minerals, and the Jxroduction an value thereof, incluiing gold in divisions of Slacer an vein, and silver mines, and the number of men employe , the average daily wage, avcm working time, and aggregate earnings in the various branches aufsforesaid divisions of the mining and quarrying industries until July Grst, nineteen hundred and four.
