Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United R¤&1¥¤¤·d 1***6 States 0{ America in Ooniness assembled, That to enable the Secretary gudriipesiu ro: cost or of the nterior to comp ete the adjustment of land (grants made by f,‘§,§",.§§“}§;,m°°§,;;,,p'§, Congress to aid in the construction of railroads, an to subject the ¤i¤¤- lands granted to taxation by States, Territories, and municipal authorities, any railroad corporation required by law to pay the costs of surveying, selecting, or conveying any lands granted to such company or corporation, or for its use and benefit, by any Act of Congress, shall be, and is hereby, required, within ninety days from demand by the Secretary of the Interior, to deposit in a proper United States depository to the credit of the United States a sum sufficient to pay the cost of surveying, selecting, and conveying any of the unsurveyed lands granted to such compan , or for its use and m {mmm benefit, under any act of Congress: Promdedy further, That the ,.,,,,w;;°§'l,§,’.,,,,,,,ct,,_ Secretary of the Interior shall determine and specify in the notice or - demand to such company the amount of the required de sit, and may, in his discretion, demand a sum sufficient to cover th; cost of the survey, selection, and conveyance of the entire area granted to any company, or for its use and benefit, then unsurveyed, or for such townships or fractional townships as he may prescribe and desi ate Diglbumemenrorde in the notice or demand to such company, as aforesaid: A1u§npm· °°°1 vided farther, That the amount depositedshall, subject to the rules and rqgulations of the Department of the Interior, under the direc- _ tion o the Commissioner of the General Land Office, be disbursed for the survqying, including office and field work, selection, and conveyance o the lands granted and designated in the notice of the cgsepavment ¤f ex- Secretary of the Interior, as aforesaid: And p1·0*mkZedfurthe1·, That in the event the money deposited by any railroad corporation under the provisions of this act shall exceed the cost of said surveys the said excess thereof shall be repaid to the corporations so depositing the same, or to its assigns. 0uFgggm¤¤rtg gikzgné Sno, 2. That if any railroad corporation required by law to pay posit, the costs of surveying, $9l9_Ct1Ilg, or conveying any lends granted to such corporation, or for its use and benefit, by any Act of Congress, shall, for nmety dagys from notice or demand by the Secretary of the Interior, as provided in this Act, neglect or refuse to deposit an amount sufficient to meet the expense of surve ing, selecting and_convey1ng the unsurveyed lands anted to such company oil for its use and beneiit, by an Act og].
