Taft, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the power in me vested by the Act of Congress approved June fourth, eighteen hundred and ninety-seven, V°'·3°·P·°°· entitled ‘An Act Making appropriations for sundry civil expenses of the Government for the fiscal year ending Jime thirtieth, eighteen hundred and ninety-e` ht, and for other purposes," do proclaim that ·‘"“**’·2"“°· the boundaries of thelI{em National Forest are hereby changed and _ that they are now as shown on the diagram forming apart hereof. $g;‘;,“‘“""z;;,'““d’· This proclamation shall not prevent the settlement and entry of °’ ’p` any lands heretofore opened to settlement and entry under the Act of Congress approved June eleventh, nineteen hundred and six, entitled "An Act To provide for the entry of Agricultural lands . within forest reserves," and Acts amendatory thereof. ‘ I$;d(#i·°m8f¤1:`¥¤¢¤¤ W The lands hereby eliminated from the Kern National Forest which pu are not embraced in withdrawals for administrative sites for use in the management of the Forest, or in any other reservation or a propriation, shall be restored to the public domain and become suibject to settlement under the general provisions of the homestead laws on such date and after such notice by publication as the Secretary of the Interior may prescribe, but shall not become subject to entry, filing, selection, or other form of appropriation until the expiration of thirty days from the date so fixed, except that on the same date as the lands h;gds%pjj_:¤¤;_sc¤¤¤¤ eliminated become subject to settlement, the State of California may, if the lands ehminated are subject to such selection, select as indemnity in the satisfaction of its common school grant, not to exceed two sections of land in each entire township restored, or one section in each fractional portion of a township where the restored area thereof exceeds five thousand (5,000) acres, and no person will be permitted to acquire or exercise any right whatever under any settlement or occup_ancy begun prior to such date, and all such settlement or occu ation is herebryi for idden.
