Appropriations in this Act shall not be used for the purchase, Vjlm °*§°* ¤¤¤¤* livery, or maintenance of horses, or for the purchase, maintenance, lixiiiiiiillirdn. or me or repair of buggies or carriages and harness, except as provided for in the appropriation for contingent and miscellaneous expenses or unless the appropriation from which the same is proposed to be paid shall specifically authorize such urchase, livery, maintenance, and repair, and except also as hereinafger authorized. _ _ Appropriations in this Act shall not be used for the payment of m§YSd_’”S“'““°° p“" premiums or other cost of Hre insurance. Telephones may be maintained in the residences of the superin· atrilgiigggeeg oiliigig tendent of the water department, sanitary engineer, chief inspector "“°°d °m°*¤'¤- of the street-cleaning division, assistant superintendent of the streetcleaning division, ins ector of plumbing, secretary of the Board of Charities, health otfider, assistant health officer, chief of the bureau of preventable diseases, chief engineer of the fire department, superintendent of tpolice, electrical inspector in charge of the iire·alarm ` system, one re-alarm operator, and two fire-alarm repair men, under appropriations contained in this Act. The commissioners m,$f{’9’j,”°°**°¤¤ wrmay connect any or all of these telephones either to the system of i the Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Company or the tele hone system maintained by the District of Columbia or to both of such systems. , For postage for strictly official mail matter, $19,000. P°°°”8°· The commissioners are authorized, in their discretion, to fur- C°' '¤'°¤»¤’=°· nish necessary transportation in connection with strictly official business of the District of Columbia by the purchase of street—car and bus fares from appropriations contained in this Act: Provided, fk‘;’§°*· That the expenditures herein authorized shall be so apportioned ` as not to exceed a total of $8,000: Provided further, That the pro- u§`,j;g;,°¤ wd ¤¤¤¤¤ visions of this aragraph shall not include the appropriations herein ` made for the filfe and police departments. For judicial expenses, including procurement of chains of title ’“°‘°*°' °¤P°¤¤¢=· the printing of briefs in the Court of Appeals of the District of Columbia, witness fees, and expert services in District cases before the Supreme Court of said District, $4,000.
