ARTICLE X. The Governments of the United States and Canada shall each be S Mngitgigltmm ¤f¤>· released from responsibility for any claims or expenses arisin in the °° y' territory of the other in connection with the matters provided for in Articles VII, VIII, and IX. In consideration, however of the undertakings of the United ;,,,??,$,'.§§}§§ °i,’}E’&’ States as set forth in Article VIII, the Government of Canada shall §g·“g°éh¤,;?j*”~*** by pay to the Government of the United States the sum of two hundred and seventy-ive thousand dollars ($275,000) in currency of the United States. Should this sum fprove insuilicient to cover the cost of such undertakings one-half o the excess of such cost over the said sum shall, if t e expenditure beincurred within five ears of the coming into force o the present Convention, be paidy by the Government of Canada. l - ARTICLE XI. No dive1·sion shall henceforth be made of any waters from the ,,§§°°‘§°‘§,°,{‘,,‘¥,*‘,§§,$ Lake of the Woods watershed to any other watershed except by •¢¤¤r·. authority of the United States or the Dominion of Canada within their respective territories and with the approval of the Intema- tional J omt Commission. ARTICLE XII.
