C ., pp . 133-143, sets . 138-178), and Acts amendatory thereof and in addition thereto ; necessary supplies, including exchange of type- writing machines, alterations and repairs, and for all other expenses authorized by said Act ; preventing the unlawful entry of aliens into the United States by the appointment of suitable officers to enforce the laws in relation thereto ; expenses of return- ing to China all Chinese persons found to be unlawfully in the United States, including the cost of imprisonment and actual expenses of conveyance of Chinese persons to the frontier or sea- board for deportation ; refunding of head tax, maintenance bills, and immigration fines upon presentation of evidence showing con- clusively that collection was made through error of Government officers ; all to be expended under the direction of the Secretary of Labor, $7,965,000 : Provided, That $1,918,440 of this amount shall be available only for coast and land-border patrol : Provided further, That the purchase, exchange, use, maintenance, and opera- tion of motor vehicles and allowances for horses, including motor vehicles and horses owned by immigration officers when used on of ficial busin ess re quired in th e enfo rcement of th e immi gratio n and Chinese exclusion laws outside of the District of Columbia may be contracted for and the cost thereof paid from the appropriation for the enforcement of those laws, under such terms and conditions as the Secretary of Labor may prescribe : Provided further, That not more than $150,000 of the sum appropriated herein may be e xpend ed in the purc hase and m aint enanc e of such moto r veh icle s, and of such sum of $150,000 not more than $125,000 shall be avail- For coast and land- able for the purchase and maintenance of motor vehicles for coast and land-border patrol.
