Repairs : For current work of repairs to streets, avenues, roads, Repairs., etc . alleys, including purchase, exchange, maintenance, and operation of nonpassenger-carrying motor vehicles used in this work, and the rental of necessary garage space therefor ; and including the sur- facing and resurfacing, or replacement, with the same or other approved materials, of such asphalt or concrete pavements as may be done within the f unds a vailab le und er this appro priati on, $ 1, 4 75 ,0 0 0, of which amount $200,000 shall be immediately available : Provided, That the Commissioners of the District of Columbia are hereby Repla cing asph alt autho rized to rep lace t he exi sting municip al asp halt p lant a t a co st plant. not to exceed $20,000. This appropriation shall be available for repairing pavements of mentset railways pave- street railways when necessary ; the amounts thus expended shall be collected from such railroad companies as provided by section 5of Vol.20,p.105 . "An Act providing a permanent form of government for the District of Columbia," approved June 11, 1878, and shall be deposited to the credit of the appropriation for the fiscal year in which they are collected.
Changing sidewalks The Commissioners of the District of Columbia are authorized and widths, etc . empowered, in their discretion, to fix or alter the respective widths of sidewalks and roadways (including tree spaces and parking) of all high ways that may be i mprov ed un der appro priat ions cont ained in this Act.
