POLICEMEN AND FIREMEN'S RELIEF FUND Payments from. Fire department. Salaries, officers, etc . Vol.43,p.175. Perso nal servi ces . For the erection of a building to be known as the fifteenth police precinct station house, including garage, on land owned by the Dis- trict of Columbia described as parcel 175/20 in square 5087, $52,000 . For the installation of a steam-heating plant for the ninth precinct station house, $3,000. HOUSE OF DETENTION For maintenance of a suitable place for the reception and detention of girls and women over seventeen years of age, arrested by the police on charge of offense against any laws in force in the District of Columbia, or held as witnesses or held pending final investigation or examination, or otherwise, including transportation, the purchase and maintenance of necessary motor vehicles, clinic supplies, food, upkeep and repair of building, fuel, gas, ice, laundry, supplies, and equipment, electricity, and other necessary expenses $11,000 ; for per- sonal services in accordance with the Classification Act of 19 23, $10,000 ; in all, $21,000 : Provided, That no part of this appropriation shall be expended for the maintenance of a House of Detention in the territory abutting or adjacent to the grounds of the Capitol Building, the Senate and House Office Buildings, and the Library of Congress . To pay the relief and other allowances as authorized by law, a sum not to exceed $650,000 is appropriated from the policemen and firemen's relief fund. FIRE DEPARTMENT SALA RIES For the pay of officers and members of the fire department, in accordance with the Act entitled "An Act to fix the salaries of officers and members of the Metropolitan police force, the United States park police force, and the fire department of the District of Columbia, $1,89 5,000 . For repairs to apparatus motor vehicles and other motor-driven apparatus, fire boat and for new apparatus, new motor vehicles, new appliance s, employment of mechanics, helpers, and laborers in the fire department repair shop, and for the purchase of necessary sup- plies, materials, equipment, and tools, $51,000 : Provided, That the co mmis sion ers are auth oriz ed, in t heir dis cret ion, to buil d or con- struct, in whole or in part, fire-fighting apparatus in the fire depart- ment repa ir shop .
