For the extension of canals and laterals on the ceded portion of the W ind River Reservation, Wyoming, to provide for the irriga- tion of additional Indian lands, and for the Indians' pro rata share of the cost of the operation and maintenance of canals and laterals and for the Indians' pro rata share of the cost of the Big Bend drain- age project on the ceded portion of that reservation, and for con- tinuing t he work of construc ting an irrigation system within the diminished reservation, including the Big Wind River and Dry Creek Canals, and including the maintenance and ope rat ion of c ompl eted canals, $45,000, reimbursable as provided by existing law . Appropriations herein for irrigation and drainage of Indian lands shall be available only for expenditure by and under the direc- tion of the Commissioner of Indian Affairs . Educ ation . f For the support of Indian day and ind ustrial schools not other- wise provided for, and other educational and indus trial purp oses in connection therewith, $3,267,000 : Provided, That not to exceed $10,000 of this appropriation may be used for the support and education of deaf and dumb or blind or mentally deficient Indian children : Pro- vided further, That $4,500 of this appropriation may be used for the education and civilization of the Alabama and Coushatta Indians in Texas : Provided further, That not more than $450,000 of the amount herein appropriated may be expended for the tuition of I ndian children enrolled in the public schools under such rules and regula- tions as the Secretary of the Interior may prescribe, but formal con- tracts shall not be required, for compliance with section 3744 of the Revised Statutes (U . S . C., title 41, sec. 16), for payment of tuition of Indian children in public schools or of Indian children in schools for the deaf and dumb, blind, or mentally deficient : Prov ide d fu r- ther, That not less than $6,5 00 of the amount herein appropriated shall be available only for purchase of library books : And provided urt her, That not to exceed $10 ,000 of the amount herein appro- priated shall be available for educating Indian youth in stock rais- ing at the United States Range Livestock Experiment Station at Miles City, Montana. Fo r the support of In dian day and indust rial scho ols, and other educational and industrial purposes in connection therewith, other than among the Five Civilized Tribes, there shall be expended from Indian tribal funds and from school revenues arising under the Act of May 17, 1926 (44 Stat ., p . 560), not more than $750,000, including the following amount from the principal sum on deposit to the credit of the Chippewa Indians in Minnesota, arising under section 7 of the Act approved January 14, 1889 (25 Stat., p . 645) : $10,000 for the construction, equipment, and maintenance of public schools in connect ion with and under the control of the public-school system of the State of Minnesota, said school buildings to be located at places contiguous to Indian children who are now without proper public-school facilities : P rovided, That not more than $7,500 of the N Wso- construction above authorization of $750,000 shall be expended for new construe- limitedn tion at any one school unless herein expressly authorized .
