891 SEC . 57. That the Code of Criminal Procedure for the Canal Zone is hereby amended by inserting therein, following section 184, a new sect ion num bere d 18 4a, to read as fol lows "SEC . 184a. The rules of evidence in civil actions are applicable Ru les of eviden ce . also to criminal actions, except as otherwise provided in this code." SEC. 58 . That the Code of Criminal Procedure for the Canal Zone is hereby amende d by inserting t herein, followin g section 184a, a new section numbered 184b, to read as follows "SEC. 184b. Perjury must be proved by the testimony of two Perjury, how proved . witnesses, or of one witness and corroborating circumstances ." SEC . 59 . That section 199 of the Code of Criminal Procedure for the Canal Zone is hereby amended to read as follows : " SEC. 199 . When, in the opinion of the court, it is proper that the viewing of premises jury should view the place in which the offense is charged to have bylury. been committed, or in which any other material fact occurred, it may order the jury to be conducted in a body, in the custody of the mar- shal, to the pla ce, which must b e shown to them by a person appoi nted by the court for that purpose ; and the marshal must be sworn to suffer no person to speak or communicate with the jury, nor to do so himself, on any subject connected with the trial, and to return them into court without unnecessary delay or at a specified time ." SEC. 60 . That the Code of Criminal Procedure for the Canal Zone is hereby amended by inserting therein, following section 202, a new section numbered 202a, to read as follows : " SEC. 202a. When the jury have agreed upon their verdict they agRe~t of jury when must be conducted into court by the officer having them in charge . reached . When the jury appear they must be asked by the court, or clerk, whether they have agreed upon their verdict, and if the foreman answers in the affirmat ive, the y must, on being require d, decla re the same." SEC. 61 . That the Code of Criminal Procedure for the Canal Zone is here by amend ed by in serting therein, followi ng secti on 202a, a new section numbered 202b, to read as follows : " SEC. 202b. The jury may render a general verdict, or, when they Ge ne verdict . or speci al . are in doubt as to the, legal effects of the facts proved, they may, except upon a trial for libel, find a special verdict ." SEC. 62. That the Code of Criminal Procedure for the Canal Zone is here by amend ed by in serting therein, followi ng secti on 202b, a new section numbered 202c, to read as follows : " SEC . 202c. A special verdict is that by which the jury find the ,road

It must present the conclusions of fact as established by the evidence, and not the evi- dence to prove them, and these conclusions of fact must be so pre- sented as that nothing remains to the court but to draw conclusions of law upon them ." SEC . 63. That the Code of Criminal Procedure for the Canal Zone is hereby amended by insert' real following s ection 202c, a n ew section numbered 202d, to read as follows " SEC . 202d . The special verdict must be reduced to writing by the Reduced to writing . jury, or in th eir pres ence ent ered upo n the mi nutes of the cou rt, read to the jury and agreed to by them, before they are discharged ." SEC . 64 . That the Code of Criminal Procedure for the Canal Zone is hereby a mended by insert ing therein, fol lowing section 2 02d, a new section numbered 202e, to read as follows " SEC . 202e. The special verdict need not be in any particular form FormL but is sufficient if it present intelligibly the facts found by the jury .' ; SEC . 65 .
