GOVERNMENT PRINTING OFFICE To provide the Public Printer with a working capital for the following purposes for the execution of printing, binding, litho- graphing, mapping, engraving, and other authorized work of the Government Printing Office for the various branches of the Gov- ernment : For salaries of Public Printer and Deputy Public Printer ; for salaries, compensation, or wages of all necessary offi- cers and employees additional to those herein appropriated for, including employees necessary to handle waste paper and con- demned materia l for sale ; to enable th e Public Prin ter to comply with the provisions of law granting holidays and half holidays and Executive orders granting holidays and half holidays with pay to employees ; to enable the Public Printer to comply with the pro- visions of law granting annual leave to employees with pay ; rents, fuel, gas, heat, electric current, gas and electric fixtures
bicycles, motor-propelled vehicles for the carriage of printing and printing supplies, and the maintenance, repair, and opera- tion of the same, to be used only for official purposes, including operation, repair, and maintenance of motor-propelled passenger- carrying vehicles for official use of the officers of the Government Printing Office when in writing ordered by the Public Printer ; freigh t, expr essage , teleg raph, a nd tel ephone service , furn iture, type- writers, and carpets ; traveling expenses ; stationery, postage, and advertising ; directories, technical books, newspapers and magazines, and books of reference (not exceeding $500) ; adding and numbering machines, time stamps, and other machines of similar character ; rubber boots, coats , and g loves ; m achi nery (no t ex ceed ing $300 ,000 ) ; equipment, and for repairs to machinery, implements, and build- ings, and for minor alterations to buildings ; necessary equipment, maintenance, and supplies for the emergency room for the use of all employees in the Government Printing Office who may be taken suddenly ill or receive injury while on duty ; other necessary con- tingent and miscellaneous items authorized by the Public Printer
for expenses authorized in writing by the Joint Committee on Printing for the inspection of printing and binding equipment, mate- rial, and supplies and Government printing plants in the District of Columbia or elsewhere (not exceedin g $1,000) ; for salaries and expenses of preparing the semimonthly and session indexes of the Congressional Record under the direction of the Joint Committee on Printing (chief indexer at $3,480, one cataloguer at $3,180, two cat alog uers at $2,4 60 e ach, and one cat alog uer at $ 2,10 0)

all the necessary labor, paper, materials, and equipment needed in the prosecution and delivery and mailing of the work ; in all, $2,500,000, to which shall be charged the printing and binding auth orized to be done for C ongres s incl uding suppl ementa l and deficiency estimates of appropriations, the printing and binding for use of the Government Printing Office, and printing and binding (n ot exc eeding $2,000) for o fficial use of the A rchitec t of th e Capi tol when authorized by the Secretary of the Senate ; in all to an amount Government Print- ing O ffice .
