1093 be made for such purpose su ch amounts that, together with his pur- chased annuity, will make his total annuity $1,200 per annum . Each such member of the teaching staffs, who so participates a nd who is forc ed to retire for physical inca pacity prior to his reaching t he prescribed retirement age, shall be paid by the Secretary of the Navy, from such appropriations as may be made for such purpose, such amounts which together with his purchased annuity, will make his total annuity equivalent to an amount, not exceeding $1,200 per annum, which would have been due him had the provisions of this Act been in effect on the date of his original employment : Provided, Alternative . That each such member of th e teaching staffs who is so em ployed on the date of approval of thi s Act and who is entitled to r etirement and retirement benefits under the provisions of the Civil Service U. s- c., P. 91. Retirement Act of 1920, as amended, may elect to continue thereunder, or he may elect to participate in the benefits under the provisions of this section ; but in the event that he elects to participate in the bene- fits under the provisions of this section, no further deductions shall be made from his pay for credit to the civil-service retirement fund, and the Civil Service Commission s hall close his account with su ch fund under the same provisions as though he voluntarily separated himself from the Federal service, except that the amount of such credi t will be r etaine d in the ci vil-s ervice reti remen t fund and remain subject to claim by, and payment to, him, his beneficiary, or his estate only in the e vent of his separation from th e Federal service by death or otherwise before retirement under the provisions of this Act, and then only in the amount by which such credit exceeds the total amount of 5 per centum of his basic salary which may have been credited to his monthly pay accounts under the provisions of section 2 of this Act. SEC . 5 . Civilian members of the teaching staffs of the Naval Acad- $ c o p e y emy and Postgraduate School shall include instructors, assistant chief instructors, chief instructors, assistant professors, associate profes . sors, and p rofes sors . SEC. 6 . The Secretary of the Navy is authorized and directed to Regulations . make such regulations as may be necessary to carry out the provi- sions of this Act . There is hereby authorized to be appropriated, thApp~priations au. out of any money in the Treasury not otherwise appropriated, such Post, pp. 1400, 1403. amounts as may be necessary to carry out the provisions of this Act . Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the U nited States o f Americ a in C ongre ss ass embled , That the consent of Congress is hereby granted to the county of Saline, Missouri, to construct, maintain, and operate a bridge and approaches thereto across the Missouri River, at a point suitable to the interest of navigation, at or near Miami, Missouri, in accordance wth 1 the pro- visions of an Act entitled "An Act to regulate the constr uction of bridges over navigable waters ", approved March 23, 1906, and subject to the conditions and limitations contained in this Act . SEC. 2 . If tolls are charged for the use of such bridge, the rates of toll shall be so adjusted as to provide a fund sufficient to pay the reasonable cost of maintaining, repairing, and operating the bridge l So in original .
