To amend the Teachers' Salary Act of the District of Columbia, approved June 4, [Public, No .496.]

1924, as amended, in relation to raising the trade or vocational schools to the level of junior high schools, and for other purposes . B e it en acted by the Se nate and House of Repre sentati ves of t he Distric t of Colu mbia, United S tates o f Ameri ca in Co ngress assemble d, That it is the pur- public schools . Trade or vocational pose of this Act to raise the trade or vocational schools from the schools ; reclassification . present elementary school level to the rank of junior high schools as to salary schedule ; an d to prov ide other nec essar y le gisla tion rela ting thereto. Salary schedule.

SEC. 2 . That on and after July 1, 1936, the salaries of teachers and principals of the trade or vocational schools shall be as follows : Teachers, class 1 .

CLAS S 1-TEAC HERS Group A. Group A . A basic salary of $1,400 per year, with an annual increase in salary of $100 for eight years, or until a maximum salary of $2,200 per year is reached . Group B . Group B . A basic salary of $2,300 per y ear, with an annual increase in salary of $100 for three years, or until a maximum salary of $2,600 per year is reached . Class 2.

CLAS S 2-TEAC HERS Group A. Group A . A basic salary of $1,600 per year, with an annual increase in salary of $100 for eight years, or until a maximum salary of $2,400 per year is reached . Group B G rou p B . A basic salary of $2,500 per y ear, with an annual increase in salary of $100 for three years, or until a maximum salary of $2,800 per year is reached . Group C . Group C . A basic salary of $1,800 per year, with an annual increase in salary of $100 for ten years, or until a maximum salary of $2,800 per year is reached . G roup D. Group D . A basic salary of $2,900 per year, with an annual increase in salary of $100 for three years, or until a maximum salary of $3,200 per year is reached . CLASS 8-PRINCIPALS Principals, class 8 . A basic salary of $3,500 per year, with an annual increase in salary of $100 for five years, or until a maximum salary of $4,000 per year is reached . B oard of Educa tion, authori ty conferr ed on, SEC. 3 . That the Board of Education is hereby authorized, to classify teachers, etc. empowered, and directed to classify and assign the teachers and prin- cipals in the service in trade or vocational schools on July 1, 1936, to the salary classes and positions in the foregoing salary schedule for said trade or vocational schools, in accordance with such rules as the Oc cupat ional Board of Education may prescribe . schools; est ab lis hm ent . SEC . 4. That the Board of Education is authorized and empowered to establish occupational schools on the elementary school level for pupils not prepared to pursue vocational courses in the trade or vocational schools ; and also to carry on trade or vocational courses on th e senior high school leve l or in senior high school s .
