[CH APTE R 267 .] J OINT RE SOLU TIO N To authorize an investigation of the means of increasing capacity of the Panama Canal for future needs of interoceanic shipping, and for other purposes . Resolved by the Senate and Home of Representatives of the United States o f America in Congress assembled, That the Governor of the Panama Canal is hereby authorized and directed to investigate the means of increasing the capacity of the Panama Canal for future needs of interoceanic shipping, and to pr epare designs and approxi- mate estimates of cost of such additional locks or other structures and facilities as are needed for the purpose, and to m ake progress reports from time to time of the results thereof . provisions of Public Resolution Numbered 61, Seventy-f ourth Con- gress, p. 929. gress, first session, approved August 27, 1935, to make an investi- gation with respect to agricultural income and the fin ancial and economic condition of agricultural producers generally ; an d Whereas the said Commission was directed to present an interim report to the Congress on January 1, 1936, describing the progress made and the status of its work under said public resolution, and a final report with recommendations for legislation not later than July 1, 1936 ; and Whereas it appears that the appropriation for conducting this inves- tigation carried in the deficiency appropriation bill failed of passage in the first session of the Seventy-fourth Con gress, and was not actually made until February 11, 1936 although the reso- lution authorizing the investigation was introduced some eighteen months prior to the date specified for the completion of the inves- tigation and report, and was approved August 27, 1935 ; and Whereas the extensive information called for under the terms of the said public resolution has caused frequent and numerou s requests for extensions of time upon the part of persons from whom such information has had to be obtained, such extensions am ounting to from one to three months in addition to thirty days' t ime origi- nally allowed by the Commission ; and Whereas it is learned that much of the necessary information can- not be secured by July 1, 1936 ; and Whereas it appears that it will be possible for the Commission to secure and present much more comprehensive data and to present a much more thorough and accurate study and report upon the same if t he time wi thin which it is dir ected to c omplete it s investi- gation and to submit its final report thereon with recommendations for legislation be extended : Therefore be it Time e xtended for re- Resolved b the Senate and House o Representatives o the Unite d port bre Federal Trade
