Census of Agriculture : For sa laries and n ecessa ry exp enses for preparing for, taking, compiling, and publishing the Census of Agri- culture of the United States for 1935, as provided by law (U . S . C ., Supp . VII, title 13, p . '216), including rent for quarters in and out- side the District of Columbia ; salaries of employees in the District of Columbia and elsewhere, including temporary employees in the District of Columbia who may be appointed by the Director of the Census under civil-service rules for any period not extending beyond December 31, 1936, at rates of pay to be fixed by the Director of the Census without regard to the provisions of the Classification Act as amend ed : Pro vid ed, Th at suc h temp orary employ ees in the D istric t Proriso . Leave of absence to of Columbia may be allowed leave of absence with pay at the rate of temporary employees . one and one-fourth days per month ; for the employment by contract of personal services for the preparation of monographs in connection with the Census of Agriculture ; for the compensation of supervisors, supervisors' clerks, special agents, enumerators, and interpreters, and for the necessary traveling expenses of such field employees and of detailed employees of the Bureau ; the purchase of supplies and equipm ent, i ncludi ng boo ks of refere nce, p eriodi cals, maps, manu- scripts, street-car fares, punch cards, and materials ; the purchase, rental, repair, and exchange of typewriters, calculating machines, punchi ng, ta bulati ng, an d sort ing ma chines , and other office appli- ances ; the construction of punching, tabulating, and sorting machines, including technical, mechanical, and other services in con- nection therewith, whether in the District of Columbia or elsewhere ; purcha se and e xchange of motor trucks, first-a id outf its, and all oth er miscellaneous items and necessary expenses not included in the fore- oing ; printing and binding at the Government Printing Office ; 1,500,000, to continue available until December 31, 1936, of which sum $500,000 shall be immediately available .
