LIBRARY, DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE Salaries and expenses : For purchase and exchange of books of ref- erence, law books, technica l and scientific books, periodicals, and for expenses incurred in co mpleting imperfect series ; n ot t o ex cee d $1,200 for newspapers, and when authorized by the Secretary of Agriculture for dues for library membership in societies or associa- tions which issue publications to members only or at a price to mem- bers lower than to subscribers who are not members ; for salaries in the city of Washington and elsewhere ; for official traveling expenses, and for library fixtures, library cards, supplies, and for all other necessary expenses, $103,80 0, of which amount not to exceed $70,520 may be expended for personal services in the District of Columbia . OFFICE OF EXPERIMENT STATIONS PAYMENTS TO STATES, HAW AI I, ALASKA, AND PUERTO RICO FOR AGRICULTURAL EXPERIMENT STATIONS To carry into effect the provisions of an Act approved March 2, 1887 (U. S . C ., title 7, sees . 362, 363, 365, 368, 377-379), entitled "An Act to establish agricultural experiment stations in connection with the colleges established in the several States under the provisions of an Act approved July 2, 1862 (U. S . C., title 7, sets . 301-308), and of the Acts supplementary thereto", the sums apportioned to the several States, to be paid quarterly in advance, $720,000 . To carry into effect the provisions of an Act approved March 16, 1906 (U . S . C., title 7, sec . 369), entitled "An Act to provide for an increased annu al appropriation for agricultural experiment stations and regulating the expenditure thereof", and Acts supplementary thereto, the sums apportioned to the several States to be paid quart- erly in advance, $720,000 . To carry into effect the provisions of an Act entitled "An Act to authorize the more complete endowment of agricultural experiment stations", approved February 24, 1925 (U . S . C ., title 7, sees . 361, 366, 370, 371, 373-376, 380, 382), $2,880,000 . Hawaii : To carry into effect the provisions of an Act entitled "An Act to extend the benefits of certain Acts of Congress to the Territory of Hawaii", approved May 16, 1928 (U . S . C ., title 7, sets . 386-386b), $50,000 . Alaska : To carry into effect the provisions of an Act entitled "An Act to extend the benefits of the Hatch Act and the Smith-Lever Act to the Territory of Alaska", approved February 23, 1929 (U. S. C., title 7, sec. 386c), $15,000. Puerto Rico : To carry into effect the provisions of an Act entitled "An Act to coordinate the a gricultural experiment station work and to extend the benefits of certain Acts of Congress to the Territory of Puerto Rico", approved March 4, 1931 (U . S . C ., title 7, sees . 386d- 386f), $35,000 . For payments to States, Haw aii, Alaska, and Puerto Rico, pursuant to authorizations contained in title 1 of an Act entitled "An Act to provide for research into basic laws and principles relating to agri- culture and to provide for the further development of cooperative agricultural extension work and the more complete endowment and support of land-grant colleges", approved June 29, 1935 (49 Stat ., pp. 436 139), $1,200,000 . In all, payments to States, Hawaii, Alaska, and Puerto Rico for agricultural experiment stations, $5,620,000 .
